How to Write a Winning UCAS Personal Statement

The personal statement is your opportunity to stand out from thousands of applicants. In just 4,000 characters, you need to demonstrate your passion for the subject, relevant experience, and potential to succeed.

Start Strong: Your opening sentence should grab attention. Avoid clichés like "I have always been passionate about..." Instead, consider starting with a specific experience or insight that sparked your interest.

Show, Don't Tell: Rather than saying you're hardworking, describe a project you completed that demonstrates this. Specific examples are far more compelling than generic claims.

Connect Your Experiences: Link your work experience, extracurricular activities, and reading to your chosen course. Explain what you learned and how it prepared you for university study.

Research the Course: Mention specific modules, facilities, or teaching approaches that attract you to the course. This shows you've done your homework and are genuinely interested.

Be Genuine: Admissions tutors read thousands of statements. Authenticity stands out. Write in your own voice about things that genuinely interest you.

Structure and Proofread: Use clear paragraphs, check grammar and spelling carefully, and have someone else review your statement before submission.

Our advisors at Study Bridge have helped thousands of students craft successful personal statements. Book a consultation for personalized feedback on your draft.
