UK Student Visa Changes 2026: What You Need to Know

The UK Home Office has announced significant updates to the Student Visa route for the 2026 academic year. These changes aim to streamline the application process while maintaining the high standards expected of international students.
Key changes include updated financial requirements, with the maintenance funds threshold increasing to reflect current living costs. Students applying to study in London will now need to show £1,534 per month, while those studying outside London must demonstrate £1,171 per month for living expenses.
The application timeline has also been adjusted. Students can now apply for their visa up to 6 months before their course start date, giving more time to prepare documentation and arrange travel.
Graduate Route remains unchanged, allowing students to stay in the UK for 2 years after completing their degree (3 years for PhD graduates) to work or look for work.
Work rights during studies continue at 20 hours per week during term time and full-time during holidays for degree-level courses. This provides valuable work experience opportunities alongside your studies.
